Physical Education

The PE department utilizes physical education curriculum based on the California state guidelines and standards to its best ability. The limitation of space and outdoor resources prevents this department to flourish to the best of its ability. However, with all its limitations, Hovsepian School has an active sports department and various after school training programs. Yoga and dance programs have been implemented for K-8 students to supplement and enhance the physical education program. For training purposes, the after school teams utilize an indoor basketball court at local sports facilities. These teams ultimately compete in leagues sponsored by the City of Pasadena and the KAHAM games, an interscholastic competition among private Armenian schools, that includes basketball, volleyball, soccer, track and field, table tennis, and chess. Also, the P.E. department participates in scrimmages against local non-Armenian private schools (e.g., Westridge, Flintridge, and Mayfield). These local prep schools break down their teams in A, B, & C categories, with “A” being their most developed competitive level. Hovsepian students have played all three levels.
